SumTotal Systems is committed to protecting your privacy and earning your trust. This policy discloses our privacy practices for personal information you provide to us. This policy explains how we collect, use and safeguard your personal information. Information Collection

SumTotal is the sole owner of the information collected on community.sumtotalsystems.com. SumTotal collects information from our users at several different points on our web site.

Registration

In order to use the Community, a user is required to share contact information (name and email address). We use this information as necessary to provide you with our services.

User Information

By default, other members of the community may view your name. At any time you may opt in to allow other users to view information such as job title, organization, email address, etc. by changing the visibility settings on your user profile. Forum Community

During your use of this Web site, you may wish to participate in our Forum Community by asking questions or responding to other users' questions. Any information you provide within this area may be viewed by other members of the community. It is encouraged that you never provide any sensitive or private information in this area. When these items are displayed for others to see, website will display your name and your message.

Cookies and Log Files

Cookies

A "cookie" is a chunk of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored by your browser on the hard drive of your computer. SumTotal Systems does not use cookies to retrieve personal information about you from your computer.

SumTotal Systems uses cookies to:

  • Locate your name and account information when you log in to our Web site so that you can access your account information. When you log in, the cookie is set, and when you sign-out, the cookie is modified.
  • Measure the traffic to various areas of the SumTotal Systems Site. We measure the areas of the network of Web sites you visit and your visiting patterns in the aggregate. This research helps us understand the ways in which our customers are alike and the ways in which they differ. We may use this information to personalize the information and design in our Web site.
  • Do not tell anyone your password. If your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately change your password.

Log Files

Like most standard Web site servers we use log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user's movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses, etc. are not linked to personally identifiable information, and are never given to third parties. Aggregate information may be used by SumTotal to enhance the community.

New Member Notifications

We send all new members a welcoming email to verify password and username.

Subscriptions

Members can subscribe to discussion forums, which will prompt the system to send an email when new posts are added to the discussion forums of their choosing. SumTotal may subscribe certain individuals to announcement forums that share product-critical information. You can unsubscribe from discussion forums. Community Announcements

It may be necessary, on occasion, for SumTotal to send an announcement regarding the community. These announcements may relate to new system features we’d like to highlight, address a technical issue, request feedback, etc., all with the intent to improve your community experience.

Other than as stated in this policy, SumTotal Systems does not disclose any of your personal information to third parties without your permission. Read the following sections to learn more.

SumTotal Systems may disclose your personal information to business partners, subcontractors or sponsors as SumTotal deems necessary to provide products and services to you.

SumTotal Systems discloses aggregated or anonymous statistics (for example, the percentage of users from the western U.S.) to prospective partners and advertisers and for other lawful purposes.

SumTotal Systems also may disclose your information where disclosure is necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interfering with our rights or property rights, the users' rights, or others’ rights. In the same way, SumTotal Systems will disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law or to comply with a legal process served on SumTotal Systems.
